Music at St. John

St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church has been blessed with an abundance of musical talent.  Over the years the choir at St. John has performed music from Gregorian Chant (a type of music that dates back centuries), Renaissance, and Baroque, to beautiful modern pieces written for a church choir.  We sing anything from the early polyphonic motets of Palestrina written in the 16th century, to "Today the Virgin" by John Tavener written in the 20th century.  We are grateful we have been allowed such talent at such a small church to be able to perform these wonderful pieces of music for the glory of God and the enrichment of His people.  We are lead by Kantor Holst, who received his Bachelors of Arts in music from the University of California in Riverside and is currently working on his Masters of Arts at California State University Dominguez Hills.  Below is an example of Gregorian Chant as sung by the Monastic Choir of St. Peter's Abbey, Solesmes.  If you are interested in joining our choir please contact us.  We are always happy to have new members.  We accept people of any age, but will require an audition.

Let our glory be the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.  In Him we have salvation, life and resurrection ; through Him we have salvation and freedom. — May God have mercy on us and bless us ; may He cause His face to shine on us and be merciful to us.
